They can be used wherever serial devices need to be connected to 10/100mb LANs. The units are available in 2, 4, 8 or 16 port versions with a range with DB25 or RJ45 presentation options and all with 10/100 network connectivity. Each serial port is capable of continuous bi-directional speeds of 115.2 Kbps. Both EIA-232 and EIA-422 models are available.
The IOLAN+'s advanced communication server functionality caters to the most demanding network environments. Included is PPP dial-in support for WINS, user authentication and accounting, dial-out pooling, automatic modem reset and dial on demand IP routing.
Terminal server functionality includes Telnet, rlogin, up to four concurrent sessions per device, and a menu driven interface. Ports can be configured individually for dedicated connections to a pre-defined host, or a pre-configured Host Table can be used.
Used for remote printer connection, the IOLAN+ supports RCP and LPD protocols used in UNIX and Microsoft server environments. In addition, printer hunt groups are supported. Printers and other devices can also be configured as local (fixed) TTY's or COM ports on UNIX or Windows servers with driver software supplied as standard.
User authentication allows users to be restricted to specific services (Telnet/PPP) or hosts (Telnet), and also provides user -based IP address assignment. User profiles can be maintained on a central host. Security is further enhanced with TCP whitelist filtering and a multi-level password system.
Every IOLAN+ is supplied with a comprehensive, easy to use Administration Guide, together with a Quick Start guide. IOLAN+ set-up can be performed in a matter of minutes using a simple menu interface via on a directly connected console. IOLAN+ also supports BOOTP and Reverse ARP for set-up across the LAN. IOLAN+ assists setup by stepping through the additional configuration options including port profiles, remote sites, security, and PPP configuration.
The Perle IOLAN+ can be managed either on a local console using SNMP or via Telnet from anywhere on the network. SNMP support includes MIB II, Character MIB, Sessions MIB and Perle specific enterprise variables.
A comprehensive statistics monitoring system is provided, including network activity by protocol, port connect times and traffic throughput and volumes.
The world class security and administration features of the IOLAN+ are provided on three levels:
- Dial-in User Authentication
- User Services
- Logging
All three-security levels can be accomplished without the need to set up a RADIUS server. Administrators are able to verify valid users, limit user access and for accounting purposes, log all users who dial-in to the unit.
