The Alacritech family of server accelerators addresses the root of the network/server problem by offloading network protocol processing, primarily TCP/IP, from the host CPU to the server adapter. Alacritech's revolutionary SLIC Technology represents a complete re-thinking of the connection to the corporate LAN, delivering higher network throughput, lower CPU utilization, and greater server efficiency.

Server Acceleration with SLIC Technology
SLIC Technology eliminates the burden of protocol processing on the host CPU and dramatically reduces bottlenecks in the server. By offloading protocol processing, SLIC Technology frees the host CPU for application processing while boosting network throughput and increasing the maximum throughput of any server. The Alacritech product was engineered to resolve server performance bottlenecks induced by conventional adapter architectures including memory traffic, CPU interrupts and PCI traffic. Alacritech's revolutionary SLIC Technology re-architects servers by splitting TCP/IP processing between host-based exception handling and adapter-based hardware-assisted data handling. The technology is significantly more efficient that traditional network interfaces because the host is only managing session-level data rather than managing session and packet data.

SLIC Technology utilizes Alacritech's unique Internet Protocol Processor (IPP), a high-performance ASIC optimized for protocol processing. Alacritech's IPP is much faster, more efficient, and more economical than general-purpose CPUs.

Maximizing Performance and Availability
Alacritech‘s family of server accelerators provide the ultimate in flexibility. Multiple server accelerators can be connected to optimized PCI slots, reduce server overhead, and increase network performance. Alacritech‘s port aggregation software allows multiple ports to be teamed together for fault tolerance to optimize server availability. This software also allows up to four ports to share a single IP address to maximize network bandwidth.
