Agilent introduced a new fiber optic transceiver that enables network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) to integrate more than 600 Agilent transceivers into their systems, by far the highest port-density figure in the industry. The new transceiver, which provides high-speed data transport for Gigabit Ethernet and iSCSI (Internet protocol small computer system interface) applications, delivers the industry's lowest electromagnetic interference (EMI) emissions. Low EMI enables NEMs to design systems with transceivers packed more closely together, resulting in smaller, more economical network equipment.

With the introduction of the new HFBR-5911L pin through-hole (PTH) Small Form Factor (SFF) transceiver, Agilent extends one of the industry's broadest lines of Ethernet transceivers, including SC-Duplex, GBIC, MT-RJ, and LC connector options. Agilent is the world's leader in fiber-optic transceivers and leads the Ethernet market for SFF transceivers.

The Agilent HFBR-5911L operates at 3.3 volts, and utilizes an 850 nm wavelength oxide VCSEL light source. Agilent uses internally developed manufacturing and test procedures to deliver reliable, high-speed transceivers that can be manufactured in high volumes. The Agilent HFBR-5911L transceiver is currently available from Agilent and its distributor partners, and is priced at $72.70 in 1000-unit lots. Agilent will continue its fiber optic transceiver development, including single-mode 1300 nm laser solutions in both SFP and PTH packages, all planned to be available later this year.
