Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP & eSFP) Shortwave Transceiver

Transceiver modules operating at 1-2 Gbps are widely available, but the combination of a small size and hot pluggable module is the next step of advanced transceiver products. Picolight's multisource Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) package can operate at 1- or 2- Gbps and fits as a pluggable unit in a unique, one-piece cage. A latching/de-latching mechanism allows for continued robust operation while inserting and removing the module from the cage. The SFP's switchable data rate allows OEMs the flexibility to achieve higher bandwidth capacity and actually enhances the performance of the system at either data rate. The pluggability of the SFP allows further ease of use for OEM customers, who can remove or upgrade units in an operational system and better facilitate field service. The cage is press-fit onto the board and features enhanced stability through its single-piece design and rigid material construction. Solder-down cages are also available. The SFP is in volume production.
